About Me
My name is Patrick Blakley and I'm a music judge for the New York State Field Band Conference and a certified percussion judge for Winterguard International. I own a percussion studio in Woodard, NY that specializes in marching percussion instruments (snare, tenor, bass) as well as concert and drum set. I've been teaching percussion for more than two decades and have been performing for over 30 years! Please feel free to reach out if you think this would be a good match for you lesson goals.
My Musical Education Background
I have been involved with marching percussion for over 20 years. My resume includes over a dozen local schools where I've been an instructor, caption head, composer, and director. My exercise and warmup method book has been used by over 60 schools across the country in 26 states as well as 4 colleges, a DCI drum corps, and overseas in the UK. All of my scholastic groups have won state championships while I was on staff or director.
Genres and Subjects Taught
I generally teach all areas of percussion such as concert snare, drum set, mallets, and accessories, but my specialty is marching percussion such as snare, tenor, bass, and cymbals. I also enjoy teaching rhythm notation and composition as well.

Ages / Skill Levels Taught
All are welcome! If you can't read sheet music we can incorporate that into the lesson, or we can just learn to have fun drumming without sheet music. Whatever you decide, these lessons will be fun, no pressure, and no longterm commitment. You'll get out of these lessons whatever you decide you want. If you'd like to set goals we can achieve them together!
My Certifications and Awards
I am a music judge for the New York State Field Band Conference and am a certified percussion judge with Winterguard International. I am endorsed by Innovative Percussion drumsticks and Epiach drums. I am a SAMMY award winner and three-time SAMMY award finalist. My groups have performed at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade where my percussion composition was heard by millions! I have written several percussion instructional books as well as a children's book and a novel that was nominated for over a dozen local and national book awards. Every single one of my ensmebles have been state champions while I was on staff or director. My sound design has been used by WGI scholastic world and independent world ensembles competing at the highest level of winterguard. I'm sure I'm forgetting some things!
