About Me

I love music and I love playing the piano and teaching students new musical concepts and seeing them get excited about all that they're are learning and achieving at the piano. I've been playing and teaching for a long time. I also enjoy playing for seniors at retirement homes and  I am an accompanist for the Chicago Swedish Glee Club. All of this was pre-Covid, needless to say. I am currently teaching via Zoom during the Covid situation. I would love to hear from you if you're interested in learning to play the piano. 

My Musical Education Background

I have a B.A. in Music and Art from Simpson College in Indianola, IA  1974-75

Master of Music degree in Piano Performance and Teaching from Northwestern University  Evanston, IL 1976-1978

Completed 18 hours of Music Therapy from St. Mary of the Woods College  St. Mary of the Woods, IN   2012-2013

Genres and Subjects Taught

I teach piano of course. I teach classical and popular music. I also enjoy teaching my students about music theory. 

Lesson Rates

$25 for a half hour lesson

$33 for a 40 minute lesson

Ages / Skill Levels Taught

I teach children and adults. I teach classical and popular music.  I love to teach beginners about finding the notes on the piano, teaching the basics of reading music, and learning how to count all the rhythms. I love teaching a person how they  can make the music come alive through the different expressive markings in the music. I also teach students at the intermediate and early advanced stages as well. It's important also to develop a good technique through learning scales and arpeggios and triads. 

My Certifications and Awards

I performed 2 honor recitals at Simpson College in 1974 and 1975.
