About Me
I believe learning piano should be both challenging and enjoyable. : )
To that end, I work to adapt my teaching to each student's interest and personality. Through a variety of methods and repertoire, I aim to establish an appropriate pace of growth and development that will enable steady progress, with consistent and successfully met challenges, and to achieve excellence in performance.
I began teaching piano professionally 1986 shortly after discovering the Utah Music Teachers Association (UMTA). I am a member of three local chapters and have served in these chapters in a variety of positions, including the following: Membership Chair, Teacher Referrals Chair, Webmaster, Recital and Ensemble Chair, Recital Committee member, Secretary and Past-President of the Sandy Chapter of the Utah Music Teachers Association. I currently serve as the State Historian for the UMTA and as Festivals Chairman for the "Sandy A" Area of the Utah Federation of Music Clubs (UFMC) affiliated with the National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC).

Genres and Subjects Taught
I teach classical piano, also incorporating various popular music in the repertoire. I also teach music theory, technique and music history.

I am a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music (NCTM) in the area of Piano.
My Musical Influences
I can't name anything specific. I love all types of music....Classical, Jazz, Blues, Rags, 20th and 21st Century styles, then there's nothing better than good old Rock 'n' Roll : )

Marie Harris is a wonderful piano teacher. Our daughter has taken lessons and student taught for her for four years and just recently earned her 60 point Gold Cup from the UFMC. She is the first student in the Sandy A Area to earn that honor and could not have done it without Marie's love, support and endless hours of time. Marie put in more hours than I can count of additional time to help her prepare for her federation competitions and for participation in AIM. But even more, she has mentored our daughter in becoming a fabulous teacher in her own right. Everyone knows that the teacher always learns more than the students, and Marie gives that opportunity to her advanced students. I know of no other teacher that shares that experience with future music teachers. Even if our daughter never teaches piano lessons, having the opportunity to do it with Marie has taught her things she could not have learned in a traditional piano lesson and has improved her own talent and skill in ways I don't think she could have otherwise learned. Marie always says her students are her other children and for our daughter she has been another mother. We will ever be grateful to Marie for the kind, patient, and selfless person she is.
