About Me

Dr. Laura is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music, with experience teaching all ages and skill levels.  She has served three terms as president of the Hattiesburg Music Teachers League (HMTL), and is immediate past president of that professional organization.  She is a member of the Mississippi Music Teachers 
Association and the Music Teachers National Association.  She is currently the chair of the 2017 HMTL Composer Festival, a biennial event which last for 2 days and showcases a prominent contemporary American composer.

Genres and Subjects Taught

Fun and individually tailored private piano and voice (singing) lessons for preschool to senior adults.  Classical music,music theory, hymns.  Preschool group classes for 4- and 5-year olds with parent or caregiver attending.

Lesson Rates

Contact me for studio policy and tuition rates.  My rates are comparable to those of qualified teachers in the area.  Be aware that some "performance studio" businesses hire students working on degrees as private teachers.  Those teachers in that category may leave the area at any time, when they graduate and/or get a job. Students are not given the opportunity to continue with a caring, qualified teacher who will continue to oversee the student's musical progress.  Because of her professional memberships, Dr. Laura also offers many performance opportunities for those wishing to participate, including  state-wide competitions.  She also offers small studio class recitals, community service performances, and a formal end-of-school-year formal recitals.  Participation in performance oppoprtunities is always option, but self-confidence and poise come from performance experience!

All ages, from 4 years old to senior adults.  Patient and encouraging for all levels, from beginner to advanced.  

My Certifications and Awards

Dr. Broughton holds Permanent Professional Certificaion in Piano from Music Teachers National Association and is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music (NCTM).  She is a member of Mississippi Music Terachers Association, National Teachers of Music Association, and Hattiesburg Music Teachers League.  She has had the honor of serving as president of the latter professional organization three times.  She is currently the chair of the biennel Composer Festival sponsored by the Hattiesburg Music Teachers League.

My Musical Influences

Dr. Laura believes that music should always be FUN and rewarding!   Her studio is located in a comfortable and attractive setting in Hattiesburg, MS, convenient to Lamar, Forrest, Marion and Jones Counties.  She also teaches through the internet.  If you do an internet search for "Will music lessons benefit me/my child?", you will find many studies which answer that question with a resounding "Yes!"
