About Me
It is a great privilege to teach and influence people (young and old) in their learning of music. I believe that music is a gift created and given for us to enjoy, create and express; a powerful medium with the ability to move, transform, stir, inspire, encourage, motivate, drive, calm, instigate, bless, teach... the list goes on. It is limitless and transcendent. I am compelled to continually pursue growth and excellence in my skill as a musician and a teacher, knowing there will always be more to learn! I began teaching piano and voice after I graduated college in 1999. I have experience in both private and group instruction, teaching classroom music for grades K-12, leading children's choirs, and coaching vocalists and vocal groups.
I have 20+ years of performance experience in a variety of settings including playing and/or singing for weddings, conferences, special events, churches; leading worship services, traveling with vocal groups and choirs.
Genres and Subjects Taught
I strongly believe in a holistic approach to teaching music, thus implementing a variety of subjects into my lessons, including music theory, technic, reading notation, improvisation/playing by ear, ear training, sight-reading, rhythms/rhythm instruments (some Orff-Schulwerk methods) and music history.
I am also passionate about song-writing and the creative expression that this aspect of music offers to students and musicians of all ages, and I encourage my students to explore their own musical creativity. Overall, my desire is to partner with students in pursuing their goals, and to guide them in cultivating their musical gifts.
