About Me
Janice Saffir was the 2009 Colorado State Music Teachers Association Concert Artist in Piano. She performed as a soloist and gave a master class at the State Conference in June, 2009. She recently retired from her position as Professor of Piano at Truman State University in Missouri. Her early training in Chicago was with Herman Spier of the American Conservatory; her other teachers included Stanley Fletcher, Joel Shapiro, William Heiles, and Kenneth Amada.
Dr. Saffir performs regularly as soloist, chamber musician, and accompanist. Her students have won competitions and performed with regional and professional orchestras. Her teaching style is made distinctive by encouraging her students to learn the elements of interpretation along with technique and relaxation so as to develop an independent musical personality. Dr. Saffir serves regularly as a clinician and adjudicator.
