Amy Korim, piano teacher in Brockton MA

Amy Korim

Piano Teacher  ·  Brockton, MA  ·  30+ years teaching

★★★★★ 5.0  ·  10 student reviews

Some Piano Teachers Teach Scales. Amy Korim Teaches Students How to Approach Life.

That distinction comes up repeatedly in reviews left by her students over more than a decade — not just praise for technique or progress, but something harder to quantify. “Her commitment, dedication, and compassion enlightened me as both a music student and as a human being,” wrote one student who studied with her for seven years. Another, who originally hated the piano, wrote that she “learned to appreciate music and gained skills that I would keep for the rest of my life.”

Korim has been teaching piano in Brockton, Massachusetts for over thirty years, offering private lessons to students of all ages and levels — both in her studio and online. Her own relationship with the instrument began early: she started playing at age three, began formal lessons at four, gave her first public recital at eight, and performed as a soloist with a symphony orchestra at eleven. By thirteen she had appeared on television as a piano soloist.

She went on to study at the Manhattan School of Music and Hartt College of Music, building a career as both a performer and educator. Today she serves as co-President of the Chopin/Schubert Club of Providence and sits on the Board of Directors of the Brockton Symphony Orchestra.

What Students and Parents Say

The reviews on her LessonRating profile trace relationships that span years — sometimes a decade or more.

★★★★★

“Amy just solidified years of love of music in my child in short two months. My 5 year old is strong willed and I didn’t give it a high chance that she’d even be able to sit through a lesson. I’m still gobsmacked because during her lesson yesterday she accompanied Amy for three songs and she was REALLY playing.”

— Colleen M., parent of two students

That adaptability shows up consistently. One parent enrolled three children with Korim and watched each one develop differently, all under her guidance. “Ms. Korim is highly knowledgeable about teaching the piano, using different methods for different children. Because of this, she is well-loved by the children,” the parent wrote. Those children went on to win multiple first and second-place finishes in the Crescendo International Music Competition, earning performances at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

“I originally hated playing the piano but through the many years of lessons with Mrs. Korim, I learned to appreciate music and gained skills that I would keep for the rest of my life. Not only did I learn how to play complicated pieces — Beethoven, Chopin, Bach — but I learned how to apply my music skills to real life.”

— Louise, student for 7–8 years

Self-described “frustrated musician” Bob Flynn wrote after six months of lessons that his frustration had ended and his musical ability had “improved in leaps and bounds.” Another student — who studied with Korim for twelve years — noted that she “knows how to cater to any type of student from all ages.”

When the COVID pandemic forced lessons online in 2020, her students adapted quickly. “The online web lessons have been great,” one parent wrote. “Our daughter said today — ‘we’re becoming professionals at these online lessons!’”

Recognition and Awards

Korim has received the Crescendo International Music Competition’s Teacher Award six times — in 2006, 2010, 2017, 2018, and 2021 — each time as the teacher of a first or second-place student earning a Carnegie Hall performance. In 2015 she received the Paul Harris Fellow Award from the Rotary Foundation for outstanding public service. In 2018 she was honored with the Brockton High School Alumni Service Award for her contributions to the community, and in 2014 was recognized as an Inspirational Teacher at Brockton High School’s National Honor Society Induction Ceremony.

★★★★★

“The drive and zest she has for life is infectious. She has been my role model in the way I should approach life. Instead of being discouraged by shortcomings, Mrs. Korim has taught me that you can still learn and make changes.”
