About Me
Hi,
My name is Chet Wallace and I have been teaching piano and guitar lessons under my business Wallace Music World for almost ten years now. I live in Marietta, Georgia and love teaching all ages including adults. I do drive to my students homes for a small monthly fee. My method book of choice for piano is the Alfred Method and my guitar method of choice is the Mel Bay series. I bring a dry erase board to all of my lessons to help teach theory and use childhood games to get these points across. My treasure box incentive program of earning Wallace Dollars used to buy from my treasure box once a month has been a wonderful and successful idea that I have incorporated. I also am a book writer and am currently working on a project about the Winecoff Hotel fire of 1946 in Atlanta, Georgia.
I look forward to teaching you!
My Musical Education Background
I received my Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Central Florida in Orlando, Florida in 2002. I worked for a company there called Keyboards for Kids that taught both group and private piano lessons. I moved to Atlanta in 2002 and continued working for the Keyboards for Kids company working in the Atlanta chapter as a lead teacher hiring another teacher to work under me. A year later I left Keyboards for Kids to open Wallace Music World and have been teaching under my business ever since. I've taught from ages 5 all the way to adulthood teaching both piano and guitar.
I've played piano since I was seven years old for 33 years now.
Genres and Subjects Taught
I am proficient in playing classical art music, Ragtime and Jazz Music on piano and can teach all of these genres plus more. On guitar I can teach the basics and can teach folk and some rock.
Lesson Rates
My rates at the present are $30 per half hour lesson, $45 per 45 minute lesson and $60 per hour. I charge a monthly $20 driving fee to drive to your home. I do charge a $20 registration fee but waive it sometimes depending on if the student happens to have books already that can be used. This registration fee accounts for initial books and paperwork over the life of the students lessons with me. If a student has a second or third sibling taking from the same home with back-to-back lessons I give a discount to those secondary students.
Ages / Skill Levels Taught
I teach all age levels from 5-years-old and up. If I find a student is well-coordinated I might sometimes take them as early as 4 and a half.
My Certifications and Awards
I have a B.M.E. degree from the University of Central Florida and also received a tuition fee waiver for part of that education.
My Musical Influences
I have grown up with a love of all genres of music especially of Swing and Jazz music, Ragtime, Classical and Brazilian Bossa Nova and Samba. My favorite pianist are Erroll Garner, Oscar Levant, Glenn Gould and Bud Powell. Composers I have admired are Bach, Chopin and Scott Joplin. I have heavily been influenced by Brazilian artists Antonio Carlos Jobim and Elis Regina. I've written some compositions being influenced by these wonderful artists.
