About Me

Hello! My name is Bryce Patterson, and I teach in the Provo/Salt Lake Utah area. I just finished a doctorate at the University of Utah. My specialty is classical music, but I can teach pretty much any kind of music. I teach using a hybrid approach to learning. I like to combine note reading with learning to play by rote. I have found that, using this approach, students' playing ability grows rapidly without neglecting other areas that are equally important such as theory and note reading. Using this technique, I have had students learn to play Beethoven's "Fure Elise" in its entirety in less that 2 years of playing.

Genres and Subjects Taught

My area of expertise is Classical music, and I'm therefore comfortable teaching all genres and subjects with the exception of Jazz. Jazz is a whole other can of worms.

Ages / Skill Levels Taught

I'm comfortable teaching all ages and skill levels. The youngest I'll teach is 5. In my experience, kids younger than that are not developmentally ready for lesson settings.
