About Me

Helping students learn music and enjoy the pleasure of playing piano has been one of my main goals in life. I have taught piano for over 46 years to students of all ages. Being a pastor's wife has provided me with a multitude of experiences for learning, teaching, and sharing music. I am currently a church pianist, accompanist for the Prattville Community Chorus, have accompanied choirs from preschool to senior adult, directed preschool, children's, youth, and adult choir programs, taught in summer music camps, led music training workshops for preschool weekday education teachers, played piano for weddings, funerals, and special events, in addition to teaching private piano lessons. I love music and teaching is my passion.

My Musical Education Background

Growing up in Montgomery, AL, I studied piano with Elizabeth Tatom, Madelyn Muse, and Betty Gallops. During High School I presented the first recital of my own students. A few years later, I was privileged to study under Betty Sue Shepherd at Samford University, Birmingham, for a short time. While my husband was in Seminary, I was able to take a few classes at NOBTS. Even though I don't have a music degree, the Lord has provided me countless experiences to enhance my music knowledge and broaden my musical horizon. Serving as a church pianist and accompanying choirs of all ages with different ministers of music is indeed an education in itself! I gained great teaching techniques from Dr. Ray Burdeshaw and his wife Jane, while teaching with them for several years during Music Weeks at Shocco Springs Retreat. I attend at least one workshop or conference each year to continue my education. Over the years I have taught hundreds (maybe thousands) of students, and have learned something valuable from every one of them.

My Musical Influences

My earliest music memories are sitting on the front pew waiting for my grandmother, Mrs. H.H. Weathers to finish playing the piano for the service and come sit with me.

My favorite toy was a small record player, which constantly (to my family's dismay) played "Rockin' Robin".

My dance teacher taught me rhythm; my piano teachers gave me a love for classical music; my Mama NEVER LET ME QUIT; my Daddy introduced me to rock n' roll; New Orleans gave me a passion for jazz and blues and the Lord put a NEW SONG in my heart!
