About Me

Loretta Lanning, a native of Michigan, completed her graduate studies at Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Michigan studying piano performance and pedagogy with Dr. Alexandra Mascolo-David and Dr. Adrienne Wiley. While at Central, she was awarded a graduate assistantship and inducted into Pi Kappa Lambda, the national music honors society, in addition to serving as the Co-president of the MTNA Collegiate Chapter. She completed undergraduate studies at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan, having studied piano with Van Cliburn-medallist Aviram Reichert and pedagogy with Dr. Helen Marlais. Loretta specializes in Dalcroze-based group classes that instil life-long musical skills in young beginners. She has taught music in private schools in Grand Rapids, Michigan and in Central Michigan University’s Community Music School, as well as given masterclasses in both cities. She is a frequent performer in many venues in Michigan, solo and collaboratively. Loretta serves as District Chair for the State Semifinals Competition, and is on the board of the Capital Area Music Teachers Association and the Lansing Matinee Musicale. She is a member of the Music Teachers National Association and the Michigan Music Teachers Association as well as her local groups, the Capital Area Music Teachers Association and the Grand Rapids Piano Teachers Forum. An avid researcher, Loretta has presented her pedagogic research at Grand Valley State University, Central Michigan University, the Michigan Music Teachers Conference, the University of Michigan’s MTNA Collegiate Chapter, and most recently, at the World Piano Conference in Novi Sad, Serbia.
