About Me

Individual One-On-One affordable piano lessons offered by an experienced piano teacher Katarina Lalinska, Mgr., in a private studio located in Ashford subdivision in south-east part of Westmont in Illinois. Lessons are offered also online over Zoom or Skype.

Students will be exposed to a variety of piano repertoire, music theory, ear training, and performance opportunities. I am trained in the Russian technique, which helps relax muscles, joints, and tendons in order to avoid pain and inflammation in the wrists and forearms. My curriculum is designed to give my students a picture of music through piano lessons and to develop lasting musical skills.

You are welcome to schedule a trial lesson before deciding to enroll. If you would like to contact me please visit my website where you can find my email address and a phone nunber.

I am looking forward to meet new students and helping them reaching their goals. Learning music is a rewarding experience that enriches our lives.

My Musical Education Background

I have been teaching piano and music theory since 1987 in music schools and private homes in former Czechoslovakia and since 1998 in the USA. I began taking piano lessons when I was six years old. I studied a classical piano play as my major at the State Conservatory for six years with professor Ivan Miller who completed his studies in Saint Petersburg, Russia (Leningrad in the former Soviet Union). During this time, I performed solo in recitals, in school examinations, and in concerts for a public audience. I also traveled to compete in dual piano, or as an accompanist at other conservatories and schools in the country. I spent my last two years at the State Conservatory focusing on piano teaching as I observed piano teachers and gained experience by teaching at local music schools.

During my university studies I performed in a chamber vocal-instrumental music ensemble, Camerata Comeniana. I joined university student choirs that performed in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Ukraine. In 1993, I received Bachelor’s and Magister’s degrees in Musicology, with an endorsement in Music Education, from Comenius University in Slovakia.

I have experience working with students from ages 3 to 68 and gave lessons also to students with learning disabilities. I teach Russian technique that helps to avoid pain and inflammation in wrists.

We have recitals twice a year and a participation is optional. I do not require from my students to memorize their pieces that they perform at recitals. Students learn from piano method and supplemental books, and have to complete music theory, and note-spelling homework. I encourage them to practice note-spelling apps if they don’t read notes sufficiently. Besides teaching classical piano repertoire, my students can choose to play also arranged children tunes, nursery rhymes, traditional, Disney songs, pop, rock, new age, holiday, patriotic, show-tunes, and music from movies and video-games. Sometimes students wanted to play music from their country of origin or other music that was not available in their level in music stores or for a download online. Then I arranged for them pieces up to the 2nd level.

I am flexible offering unlimited amount of make-up lessons as long as my schedule allows it and if missed lessons are rescheduled in advance.

I am looking forward to help you in achieving piano playing skills and hope to instill love and appreciation of music.
