About Me
I have been an active member of the Austin musical community for many years. In addition to teaching privately, I have taught class and private piano at St. Edward's University in Austin, class piano at Texas State University in San Marcos, TX, and theory at The University of Texas. I have accompanied extensively for dancers, vocalists, instrumentalists, choral organizations, and theatrical productions. My portfolio of original compositions includes works for piano solo, chamber music, choral music, music for orchestra, as well as teaching pieces for the younger player.

Genres and Subjects Taught
Theory, technique, thorough musicianship, and development of the ear are integrated into traditional, one-on-one private lessons. Reading music fluently is a priority. Lessons are once a week. It is recommended that the student have an acoustic piano for practice rather than a keyboard. The length of lesson (1 hr., 45 min. or 30 min.) is based on the age of the student and their level of advancement. Each semester students perform in a Studio Recital. Students are encouraged to perform and participate in various activities such as the Texas Federated Music Clubs Junior Festivals, and MTNA Student Affiliate festivals, competitions, and theory exams.
Lesson Rates
Tuition is based on a $60.00 per hour rate and is due monthly in advance. Monthly tuition is always the same: $240.00 for 4 hour lessons; $180.00 for 4 45 minute lessons; or 30 min. for 4 half hour lessons. Family rates are also available. The occasional 5th lesson is prorated in an ongoing manner and is applied to holiday breaks and/or make-up lessons.
Ages / Skill Levels Taught
Students may begin as early as 5 yrs. provided they can stay focused for a 45 minute lesson. They should be learning numbers and the alphabet. I recommend that very young students (ages 5-7) have a parent present at the lesson.
Older beginners, intermediate, and advanced students may enroll at any age.
My Musical Influences
My influences include piano literature especially Bach, the Viennese Classicists (Beethoven, Mozart, and Haydn), Chopin, Liszt, Brahms, Debussy, Ravel, and others. I also have a great interest in symphonic literature, chamber music, choral music, and art song. My experience as a composer brings me into connection with 20th and 21st century styles and the works of living composers like John Adams, Michael Torke, and William Bolcom, just to name a few.
