About Me
I love to listen to music and create music at the piano, on my flute, or with singing. I have a wonderful husband as well as a young baby and two beautiful dogs that keep me on my toes! When I'm not playing or teaching music, I love to organize, cook, read a book, or watch a good movie.
My Musical Education Background
I learned piano from my mother when I was 5 years old and have loved playing ever since. I studied piano with Dr. Susan Kindall and Mrs. Ruth Coleman at Bob Jones University, earning a Bachelor’s in Piano Performance and a Master of Music Education. My experience as a piano instructor includes 4 years teaching 50+ elementary and intermediate-level students at Christ Church Episcopal School in Greenville, South Carolina. I am currently teaching in my home in the Sans Soucci/Berea area of Upstate South Carolina.
Genres and Subjects Taught
Hoelscher Music Studio offers piano instruction to any child, student, or adult who is looking for a comfortable environment to learn and grow in music. My goal for my students is to develop well-rounded musicians by incorporating many aspects of music learning into lessons – not just the learning of pieces but also sight reading (teaching the students to be able to read the music on their own), music theory (the learning of musical terms and symbols, note names, and elements of rhythm), proper technique, musicianship, pattern playing and creative expression at the piano, music listening, and preparation for performances. Within this broader goal of developing well-rounded musicians, I provide a customized approach to each student, understanding that each person brings a different personality and learning style to lessons.
