About Me

CALL ME AT (contact me) FOR PIANO LESSONS!
I am a dedicated and enthusiastic piano teacher. Throughout my 20 years of teaching, I have enjoyed watching students improve and enjoy music. Recitals and competitions are encouraged for students to have regular performance opportunities. I am a patient teacher who will explain the piano techniques and theories until a student understands them completely.
I have judged piano competitions and know how to prepare students to be successful. Several of my students have won major piano competitions. I believe, however, that the challenge of preparing for the competition is more rewarding than receiving a prize. It is an experience which motivates students to their full potential.
Studying in Korea, Germany, Vienna, and the United States has given me a global view into piano pedagogy. My teaching style is a culmination of different ideas and practices I have learned from my world travels.
I am an active piano performer and instructor. Recently, I gave master classes and concerts in Chicago and plan to offer more in the St. Louis area.
I am a professor in the Lindenwood University piano department. Prior to Lindenwood, I taught at Webster University and the Marion Music Academy.
If you are interested in taking piano lessons then contact me by phone at (contact me).

My Musical Education Background

• Doctorate of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Iowa
• Master of Music (M.M.) in Piano Performance from the Düsseldorf Robert Schumann Hochschule Düsseldorf in Germany
• Master of Music (M.M.) in Piano Performance from Illinois State University
• Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Piano Performance from the Chugye University in Seoul, Korea.

I was fortunate to have studied with excellent teachers from different countries.
Professor Michael Deichmann was my piano teacher in Germany. He taught me how to accurately interpret the musical languages of Beethoven, Bach, and Mozart. Professor Barbara Szczepanska provided me with in-depth knowledge regarding the works of Chopin and other Romantic composers. Professor Roberto Szidon taught me the necessary skills of playing as a concert pianist. Professor Gellert Modos, Illinois State University, provided me with detailed knowledge regarding the works of Franz Liszt. Professor Rene Lecuona, University of Iowa, taught me a number of invaluable skills regarding chamber music and conducting lectures.

Genres and Subjects Taught

I teach beginning, intermediate, and advanced students of all ages a variety of genres and subjects. Students may learn classical and popular music. Music genres are generally taught according to a student’s abilities and skill level.
Beginning students are taught with lesson and theory books. The theory lessons are interconnected with the music a student is learning. Supplemental music is included in lessons for the student’s enjoyment.
Intermediate students will learn Hannon’s Virtuoso Pianist in Sixty Exercises, Sonatinas, Chopin Waltzes, Nocturnes, Mozart Sonatas, Beethoven Sonatas, rag time music, country music and hymnals. I also teach specific rhythm practices, form and analysis (advanced theories), and chord structures at this level.
Music games are often included in lessons for young students. The games are not only fun, but provide another approach at teaching music theory and techniques. Musical games are important tools for helping students to remember important concepts.
Melody and accompaniment is explained using hymnals and similar music. It allows students to understand chords and playing various accompanying styles. Popular music and its rhythms are also involved in the study of melody and accompaniment.
Sight reading is an essential skill which is taught so that students may more effectively analyze different types of scores. Several exercises are provided to make students learn music at a faster pace and more accurately.
