About Me
From the age of 7, I studied with the legendary Ernestine Scott, who taught at Oklahoma City University for 40 years and had a teaching lineage going back to Frederic Chopin. I began teaching my own students in high school. For many years, I was also a Christian church music minister and enjoyed working with children’s’ choirs as I taught piano and voice to students of various ages and levels of accomplishment. My Musical Education Background
I began piano lessons at the age of 7 with Ernestine Scott, studying with her at the Oklahoma City University and later graduating with a BS in music. Over the years I did continuing education with 4 other prominent teachers.
Genres and Subjects Taught
While my education was "classical," I don't want to force a student into any specific mold. It is important to find styles and methods that appeal to the student in order to motivate her and make any significant progress. The foundations of a piano education are the same for any genre. Reading music, piano technique, music theory, ear training, improvisation, etc. are the bedrock of all piano playing, regardless of style or preference. For young children, I use games to teach many of these concepts so that the child is engaged and interested.
Lesson Rates
The first two lessons are free (exclusive of music books). This gives you an opportunity to “kick the tires.” Monthly fees of $79 (plus some costs for sheet music) include 40 minute weekly lessons in my studio. Family discounts and tuition scholarships are also available in various situations.
Ages / Skill Levels Taught
Beginners, intermediate and early advanced students are accepted.
My Certifications and Awards
When I was 17, I was piano soloist with the Oklahoma City Philharmonic. At age 21, I won the Clara Wells National Piano Competition, judged by the famed Jorge Bolet.
