Genres and Subjects Taught
To ensure a love for music, I not only teach a classical foundation, but also am always in tuned to what genres the student prefers, and I accommodate accordingly.
Students will learn repertoire, theory, technic, sight-reading, and ear training.
Along with repertoire and performance opportunities, the student will learn performance etiquette and poise. This helps to build confidence in standing before a group of people and presenting a piece of oneself--a very valuable asset for one's professional future.
Theory is the mathematical, cerebral part of music. A strong foundation in theory helps the student in musical analysis, sight-reading, and repertoire by instilling the building blocks of music into the brain to be recognized and utilized when playing.
Technique is essential for advanced playing, clarity, and safety of the pianist's wrists.
Sight-reading is an important skill for a musician; recognition of patterns and musical shapes will sharpen one's ability to read a piece of music without having prior practice (a great skill for family get togethers and jam sessions.)
Ear training is designed to teach students how to hear musical patterns and intervals and play songs by ear. This is also an important skill for using talent to play at functions and parties.
