About Me
I’m Ashlee and I absolutely love helping intermediate and advanced students reach their goals. It is a joy for me to foster creativity and confidence in my students. If you’ve already learned the basics, and you’re ready to take your playing to the next level, I will be there along the way to make sure you achieve all that you set out to! With a lifetime of piano experience, and over 15 years of teaching experience, I have learned a lot about the process of growing to love a musical instrument. I encourage my students to do things that challenge them, while maintaining a respectful, compassionate, and supportive environment. I have a master’s degree in piano performance from the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music and you can find me teaching in my private studio or at Portland Community College, performing around Portland with my wonderful colleagues in our concert series, The Connection Experiment, or researching composers and their works for my work with, A Seat at the Piano.

She founded Young Musicians in 2012 after graduating from the University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music with a master's degree in Piano Performance. She has been teaching students of all ages since 2003 and has experience teaching students with autism, dyslexia and other learning disabilities. Ashlee herself has been taking piano lessons since the age of 5. She has competed in many competitions throughout her career and has won 1st place at the VSA International Young Soloists Competition, The Liberace Piano Competition, the American International Young Protoge Piano Competition, the Montana Association of Symphony Orchestras Young Artist Competition, and the Music Teacher's National Association piano competition. She has also placed and been a finalist at many other competitions including the International Franz Liszt Piano Competition, Jefferson Symphony Young Artist Competition and the Kingsville International Piano Competition. She has been an active performer throughout her career and in addition to recitals at Carnegie Hall and The Kennedy Center, she has appeared as a soloist with many orchestras in the United States. If you are interested in taking lessons with Ashlee, please contact us for a more detailed copy of her resume or visit her website at http://ashleejyoung.com. Testimonials "Ashlee's teaching style is extremely effective for children. She creates a perfect (and oftentimes difficult to achieve) balance between praising her students and offering helpful, firm, constructive advice to encourage and promote sustained improvement. Her energy while teaching and her system for rewarding practice support independent learning as well as self-confidence in her students. I highly recommend Ashlee for any young musician or aspiring musician."

She brings professionalism, intelligence and an authentic love of teaching to her work, going beyond the basics to facilitate both technical competency and a genuine understanding of music and its meaning.
