About Me
TEACHING PHILOSOPHY & GOALS: I focus as much as possible on a student-centered approach to learning. My goal is to have a relationship with each student that is based on an absolute respect and acceptance of their individuality. I believe that this will create an atmosphere that is ideal for learning. While creating a strong foundation for the development of musical skills, my focus is also on providing students at every level with a wide variety of appealing options for supplementary literature. Students are always involved in the learning process; choosing repertoire, setting goals, making self-evaluations, and writing out assignments, among other things. Through this approach, I hope to help each student develop into a well-rounded musician who is self-motivated and independent. Curriculum covers all areas of musicianship: reading, theory, improvisation, composition, ear-training, ensemble playing, and more!
My Musical Education Background
B.S. Music - Portland State University, 2002. 20+ years piano study.
My Certifications and Awards
I continue to seek out experiences to enrich my understanding of Piano Pedagogy, most recently becoming a member of the OMTA (Oregon Music Teachers Association) as well as the MTNA (Music Teachers National Association).
