About Me
Have more musical fun, freedom, and creativity by using CHORDS!
I have enjoyed teaching piano lessons for 30 years. I have studied with many wonderful teachers who have taught me not only the traditional method, but how to have FUN playing the piano using chords and improvising.
My Musical Education Background
I have written my own book called "Keyboard Express Chord Method Song and Theory Book" to teach piano theory, how to build and recognize chords, improvise 110 ways, compose songs, transpose four ways, and traditional method sight-reading. This book also teaches how to play familiar folk or classical songs, scales, and chords in all 30 major and minor keys! Lessons (at my Kaysville studio) are for all ages (5 and up, including adults) and for all levels. You can practice using a piano or a keyboard. Fun monthly group lessons and a yearly recital are available for those who want to participate. Call me (Marilyn) to find out about my very reasonable lesson rates.I have taught many piano teacher workshops through the years. I also currently teach Community Education "Piano Fun Using Chords" two-night classes for older teens, adults, and piano teachers at Davis High School in Kaysville, Utah. Call me (Marilyn) to pre-register or for more information.
Genres and Subjects Taught
I teach all kinds of music, including classical, popular, and religious.
Ages / Skill Levels Taught
All ages (5 and up, including adults)
My Certifications and Awards
I am certified to teach the "Creative Chord Style" approach by "Scott (Houston) the Piano Guy" on TV.
I also enjoy playing elegant love songs and enjoyable popular music for WEDDINGS (reception or ceremony) or for any occasion (on the piano, keyboard, or organ). Reasonable rate. Serving the Davis County area. Many years of experience. My music creates a classy background atmosphere for your special event. Just call me (Marilyn) to schedule a time.
My Musical Influences
I have always felt strongly that there is more to music than just sight-reading the individual notes on the page. When you understand how the individual notes on the page are forming into chords (just like individual letters form a word), you can not only sight-read the music easier, but you can play the song limitless other ways by using the chords and improvising techniques. You can have more musical fun, freedom, and creativity. You can play your FAVORITE SONGS many ways! You can play songs using just a lead sheet (showing just the melody notes with the chord symbols) as well as you can play regular classical or popular sheet music. You can also compose your own songs!
